Sunday (16/1/2011) Update: I made scones! :) I had an insane hormone-induced craving for scones so I baked some. Huge thanks to my new idol, Pioneer Woman! She is fantabulous, I tell you. She can create amazing things out of thin air.
Fresh off the oven! I didn't have a large round cookie cutter so I decided to cut them into squares instead. Oooh, scone-making is so fun! It is the best feeling in the world when you grate the frozen butter and smoosh them into the flour. Smoosh smoosh with your bare hands. Add buttermilk (which is basically curdled milk + vinegar). Smoosh smoosh them even more. Your hands get filled with doughy sticky goodness but it is so fun, like smooshing brains!
Use a pastry brush and brush the top of the scones with melted buttery goodness! PS: Typical old-school Chinese rice bowl!
Oooh, all yellow, golden, soft and crumbly. And I love the cracks in the scones! <3 Amazing feeling when you cut through the cracks with a butterknife and smother it with cherry conserve and butter.
Oooh la la, safe to say that the scones were a hit with the fam! Only 6 squares left out of the gazillion squares I made. This is my favourite feeling I get from baking. :) Toodly hoo, Monday tomorrow. Gah. Only four weeks left and I'm free from purgatory!
PS: Everyone. I need your prayers. It's for a really serious matter and I would really appreciate it if you could lend me a helping hand/thought/prayer. Let's all join our hands together and pray..
"Please let the Head of Department grant me leave on Friday. Thank you for your time."
